In exactly 13 weeks MrB and I will be running the Paris Marathon. Neither of us has run a marathon before so it’s a terribly exciting / terribly scary time for us.
I wrote up my training plan today, it includes 2 days of CrossFit every week and 4 runs totaling 50km every week. My longest run will be 35km three weeks before the race.
I have never actually followed a training plan for races before so I don’t know how achievable these things are considering the little thing that gets in the way of fun sometimes – LIFE! 🙂
My main aim is to just keep clocking up the miles between now and April, to make sure that my long runs increase every week and that in the course of the next 13 weeks I don’t get injured or overtired. If I feel I need an extra rest day during one or two weeks, I’ll take it.
As for the race itself – aim nr.1 – to cross the finish line, aim nr.2 – to do it in around 4 hours.
Anyone who’s done a marathon before – what do you think? Do you always follow a strict training plan? Is 35km enough for the longest run? Any tips are welcome as this challenge is totally out of my experience / comfort zone!
