On Sunday I ran the Finsbury Park 10k for the second time. The last and first time I ran it was on my birthday 18 months ago and even though I knew the course was hilly, I had gotten a fourth place with a time of 50:50 so this time I wanted to beat that.
I wore my craziest leggings because the brighter the kit, the faster you run. Fact.
I got a PB AND a third place! Time: 46:27
I took off at the front of the pack and could see a couple of women ahead of me. I secretly hoped a) that they were just doing one loop, the 5km race and b) that if they were doing two loops that I’d be able to catch them.
In the end I didn’t catch them but looking at the results later I saw that they were 23 and 24 years old so me in my good old age of 38 am very happy with my third place.
During the race all I concentrated on was that my average pace was below 5 min / km for each km. The screen I had on on my Garmin did not include the overall time run so when I saw the time at the end I could not believe that it started with a 46.
Weirdly now that I think about hills and 10km races, I realise that I tend to do well on 10km races that involve hills. I’m thinking Crossfit’s given me the glutes of steel that get me up those hills!
After the race I was totally high and happy and it was very pleasant that the afternoon included a great totally random and aimless walk in town with my whole family + Aussie grandma. London streets are always full of surprises and this time the biggest hit was the Bubble Lady in front of the Golden Hinde.
I squealed just as much as the kids did 🙂
