You fall and you fall but one day you will get to the top

Bouldering is so similar to life I think. There are these things called “problems”. There are easy problems and sort of difficult ones and extremely difficult ones. You try to solve them week in and week out.

Sometimes you solve a few, sometimes you don’t. But that’s ok because every little while the current problems just disappear and new ones appear! 🙂

And you get to work on those!

We spent this morning at White Spider again like every Saturday morning. I love a couple of hours every weekend to work on my problems. This one here I have been working on for 3 weeks:

Today I tried again. I tried first time and failed. I tried the second time and touched the last hold but slipped off. I tried the third time and got it! And then did it 3 more times just to make sure that problem had truly been overcome.

This next one looked impossible last week but after a few go-s and a leap of faith to the last hold, I got it and since then it’s easy.

When I first started bouldering I had no idea what it was all about. I did not want to just sit around while my oldest son had a lesson and my husband was climbing so I gave it a go. All problems are colour coded and you don’t really need any instructions other than don’t jump down if you can help it, climb down instead.

So if rock climbing centres seem strange and intimidating, I can tell you that they are not. Every week there are newbies who work on the kids problems to get the hang of it and they always have a smile on their face.

What I also love about rock climbing and bouldering is that there are loads of women and girls there. It’s at least 50/50 and that is great to see.

I’ve got a week now to forget about my problems and tackle them again with new energy next Saturday 🙂

Nice! Looks like fun. I’ve been bouldering once years ago but found it so hard. Probably because my upper body strength was even weaker than it is now.

Time to give it another go then 🙂 You actually use a lot of leg power in bouldering as well, upper body is secondary on many routes.

It’s interesting having a video of yourself taken while exercising, it teaches you so much about your position and technique. I looked at that green route on the first video and straight away saw where I should have put my foot at the end to reach the top. I think my husband will be taking lots more videos of me now. Next in my list is swimming cause I’m learning front crawl and want to see just how much I thrash around 🙂
