When Crossfitters go to Iceland

If you’re into Crossfit, then you know Iceland and you know Reykjavik and if you happen to visit Iceland you most definitely will pop into Crossfit Reykjavik.

If you’re not into Crossfit (yet), here’s why – Iceland happens to make some beautiful and amazingly strong women (and men but I’m more into Crossfit women so I’m keeping the men out of this post 馃檪.聽 Take a moment and get to know:

Katr铆n Tanja Dav铆冒sd贸ttir
Winner of 2015 Crossfit Games

Sara Sigmundsd贸ttir
3rd at 2015 Crossfit Games

Annie Thorisdottir
2nd in 2014 Crossfit Games
Winner of 2011 and 2012 Crossfit Games

Anna Hulda 脫lafsd贸ttir
9th in 2014 Crossfit Europe Regionals

Bjork Odinsdottir
7th in 2015 Crossfit Europe&Africa Regionals
2nd in 2014 Crossfit Europe Regionals

Katrin, Annie and Anna all train at Crossfit Reykjavik and they were actually all in when we visited. Anna even coached the first class we did 馃檪

Compared to most Crossfit boxes in London, Crossfit Reykjavik is ginormous. Their website says that classes are on every 20 minutes, which sounds very confusing until you go and see how it works – there are 3 classes in progress at any time but because there is plenty of space, it all seems to work.

It is very noisy though and doesn’t feel as cozy and family-like as what I’m used to, but I’m sure regulars there have their own regular crew that they hang out with / train with.

To us it felt a bit like a conveyor belt and considering that Reykjavik only has a population of 120,000, it’s an incredibly busy gym. It looks like half of the population must go through it every single day.

The workouts were long and hard, but we figured it all out with the coaches translating instructions to English every once in a while.

If you’re ever in Reykjavik – the first class at Crossfit Reykjavik is free, go and pop in!聽 I’m definitely glad that I did, I’m hoping some of that Icelandic beauty and strength of Katrin, Annie, Sara, Anna and Bjork rubbed off on me.

If not, I’ll just keep on training! 馃槈
