I have proof that you don’t need to spend money on eye cream AND that delicious sugar free treats exist

This blog has gotten a bit serious lately with all he mental health stuff so today I’m being just fluffy and talking about stuff that I like at this moment in time. You’re welcome.

1. Biccy Boms by Livia’s Kitchen

Seriously delicious little balls. Perfect size. Perfectly cake-like and not just cocoa & date paste. Made from cacao butter, lucuma, coconut palm sugar, vanilla, date paste, oats, oat flour, coconut oil, maple syrup, salt. Get some now. Most supermarkets should have them.

2. Intense Greens Super Shake by Terranova

I’ve been doing green powders all wrong. I’ve tried to add them to smoothies but anything that includes spirulina will taste like bum. No matter how much fruit you add to try to mask it – bum.

I have found a new brand of green powder that is a little bit less vile than most others I’ve tried. I still don’t try to add it to smoothies though. Smoothies need to be peanut buttery.

I mix a scoop of the powder with water and just down it like a shot. Boom. Quick done deal and my body gets a nice hit of all kinds of goodness. In this case the good stuff is rice bran actives, wheat grass, barley grass, spirulina, chlorella, freeze dried greens (kale, nettle, parsley, spinach, watercress, dandelion, broccoli sprout, coriander), microflora, digestive enzymes.

I don’t know if it’s a placebo effect or not but I feel good. I don’t take it every single day but regularly enough and especially when I’m travelling and don’t have an abundance of fresh veg available.

3. Laura Thomas’ podcast Don’t Salt My Game & the episode on beauty myths

I love it when people with PhDs and other actual proper qualifications debunk myths which mean that we spend less money on shit that clever advertisers tell us that we need.

I have been suspicious like forever when anyone working at a beauty counter tells me that I NEED eye cream because the skin under my eyes is different from the skin on the rest of my body.

Seriously, it doesn’t make sense, right? Skin is skin. It might be thicker or thinner in some areas but it’s still the same skin, so I totally jumped in the air with a few punches towards the skies when I listened to this episode and it was confirmed – eye creams are a marketing scam!

4. The Heart of Nature grain bread

I don’t have a gluten or wheat insensitivity but regular bread makes me bloated. I don’t know why but that’s what happens. I recently found this bread in Waitrose and it’s perfect. Made from oats, sunflower seeds, rapeseed oil, brown linseeds, blond psyllium, rye grains (NOTE: rye has gluten so if you have a diagnosed gluten intolerance, stay away), golden linseeds, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, millet, vinegar, rye flakes, oat fiber, himalayan salt.

Slice it, toast it, top it with whatever rocks your boat and it’s a party. Or breakfast. I’m old so my ideas of a party are a bit different these days.
