January, the first month of marathon training, is now over. Looking at my running stats it’s obvious that the mileage has been cranked up a bit.
Last week’s training went like this:
- Monday: Rest
- Tuesday: Crossfit
- Wednesday: 24.51km run at 5:52 pace; Bikram
- Thursday: 6.13km recovery run at 5:35 pace
- Friday: Crossfit
- Saturday: 13.41km run at 5:26 pace
- Sunday: 7.14km run at 4:48 pace
Total: 51.19km
My long run this week was over 2km longer than it was supposed to be but considering it could have been 9km too long, all’s well. I didn’t get sick after those 2 hours in the rain and a freezing bus ride home. Note to self: buy a freaking waterproof running jacket already.
My left leg was sore for two days after that long run. Same issue – not painful to move but painful to kneel and painful when getting up from sitting. Maybe it’s a good thing I had that MRI done after all, I’ll find out on Tuesday what the doc thinks of those results.
Other than that I’m happy with the runs and with fitting in Crossfit and Bikram as well. Today my shins were feeling a bit heavy so I need to make sure I stretch my calves properly from now on. I don’t want to again end up with painful shin issues that I struggled with at around week 5 last year. Shin pain is the worst. The.Worst.
Work and life and other schtuff has made life a bit of an emotional rollercoaster this week. I’ve eaten some chocolate. I’ve drunk some wine. I told you I wasn’t perfect 🙂
But now onto the next week, there are only 9 of those left until Paris!

February 3, 2014 at 2:06 pmThe combination of Crossfit and Marathon Training is deadly!!! DEADLY AWESOME! The results are super impressive! Everything was going so well until the achilles started acting up! Now its been 1 week and were ready to tear it up again! We created a webseries showing the types of crossfit workouts we do: http://www.trainingforamarathon.com/category/web-series/
Keep up the great work!!!

February 2, 2014 at 7:41 pmEpic week! Well done for fitting in bikram and crossfit – I’m having trouble fitting bikram in but know it’s really helpful so am making more of an effort this week. Hope your leg is OK x

February 2, 2014 at 2:35 pmWell, if it is of any help, the only thing that we have in common is Bikram! I haven’t run for ages. Yoga is what keeps me (reasonably) sane…
